[KAR-13-WAV]

For the more adventurous riders, we now offer a tour without assistance vehicle, however without sacrificing your safety…

– The route has been designed to allow a reasonably quick response in the event of an emergency (farms, camps, little towns, etc).

– The distance between the petrol stations complies with the range of our Honda CRF300L, which are fitted with a 4L Desert Fox fuel cell increasing the said range by 100km.

– Although no permanent car is travelling with the bikes, two standby vehicles (based in Cape Town and Sedgefield) could depart almost instantly and provide assistance if required.

– As a standard safety feature, we are connected to the GEOS global emergency system via a Garmin In-Reach device.

– The guide and the rider at the back of the group are permanently connected via 2-way radio transceivers.

– A comprehensive first aid kit is onboard the leader’s motorbike.

– Our senior guides rely on over 35 years of African riding experience.

– The guide’s bike is fitted with a GPS and a road book; and a backup GPS is mounted on one of the participant’s bikes.

Furthermore and because travelling light is a must and team work a necessity:

– Breakfasts and suppers are provided by the accommodation’s hosts. The lunch snacks are mainly taken on-the-go.

– Due to the limited space available on the rear rack of the small displacement bikes, personal luggage must strictly be limited to a 25/30L waterproof roll bag.

– Repair tools, spare parts and tubes are shared among the participants and the guide, either in the bike’s toolbox or in a front fender bag.

Like on our tours with assistance vehicle, motorbikes damaged beyond repair during the ride cannot and won’t be replaced (cf. Ts & Cs).

ABOUT THE ROUTE

If you are attracted by remote and wide open spaces, then this adventure won’t disappoint you. The tour might be slightly less demanding than the Namakwa routes, however it provides riders with magnificent stages, numerous technically challenging trails alternating with easier gravel sections, and an unrivalled variety of breathtaking sceneries.

.

The over 3’200km route has been optimised for the use of small displacement motorcycles, avoiding wherever possible long stretches of straight gravel roads.

.

The itinerary will bring you through some of the “must ride” places of South Africa , such as the West Coast, the Bokkeveld Plateau, the Biedouw Valley, the Tankwa Karoo, the Ouberg Pass, the Great Karoo, the  Nuweveld and Outeniqua mountains, before returning to Cape Town via the Rooiberg Pass, the Seweweekspoort and the Anysberg Nature Reserve.
